MakingTurns in Colorado, Volume 1: The North

By Fritz Sperry

This book was an experiment, covering a large area instead of just a range or a part of a range, it was very confusing in many ways since the Front Range books have a north version too. When this title sells out the peaks in this volume will migrate to range-specific books, the Sawatch specifically and possibly an extreme north Front Range volume. The northern Front Range/Never Summers, Park Range, Gore, Tenmile, and Sawatch are represented here with awesome winter and spring lines. My personal favorites are in the Gore and well off-the-beaten-track in the Sawatch. I put this together after the 2019 Snowpocalypse season. While we all know or at least heard about the massive avalanches that happened during the storm, the 10-12 feet of snow we got over nine days stabilized after a month or so and covered lines better than I’ve ever seen. Do not plan on these lines being in every year, many are more like every 10 or 20 years. But it’s nice to have the info to act when the conditions present themselves.

One nice thing about a wide-ranging book is that there are plenty of surprises in the form of lines not printed. I can only print so much, we still need to leave the mystery out there for people to “see it and ski it”
